Broad Peak Avalanche Incident: Rescue Operations Underway

Gilgit-Baltistan, July 31, 2026: A 10-member international mountaineering team undertaking an expedition to Broad Peak (8,047m) was caught in an avalanche while ascending the mountain in the Karakoram Range. The expedition, organized through Karakoram Tours, Amazing Tours, and Blue Sky Trek & Tours, departed on 30 June 2026. The team comprised climbers and high-altitude support staff from the United Kingdom, Nepal, Oman, China, and Pakistan. According to preliminary reports, the avalanche struck the route between Camp II and Camp III during the team's ascent yesterday morning. Following the incident, search and rescue operations were immediately launched with the deployment of personnel from the Pakistan Army, Shigar Police, Rescue 1122, the Tourism Department, and other relevant agencies. Initial information indicates that four bodies have been recovered from the avalanche site. Authorities are currently working to verify the identities of the deceased and determine the status of the remaining members of the expedition team. Rescue and recovery efforts remain ongoing under challenging high-altitude conditions. Relevant authorities continue to coordinate closely to ensure an effective response and to gather accurate information regarding the incident.
