The Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Department has issued a travel advisory for tourists following heavy snowfall recorded across several districts of the region since last night.
According to the advisory, areas affected by the severe weather include Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Astore, Skardu, Shigar, Ghanche, Kharmang, and Diamer. Due to continuous snowfall, there is a risk of partial or complete road closures in upper and mountainous areas. Authorities have also warned that weather conditions may further deteriorate in the coming days.
The Tourism Department has advised all tourists to strictly follow precautionary measures, including verifying weather conditions and road status through authentic and official sources before traveling. Non-essential travel, especially to high-altitude and snowfall-affected areas, is recommended to be postponed temporarily.
Tourists are further advised to use suitable vehicles, preferably 4×4, during travel and to carry essential winter equipment such as snow chains, extra fuel, food supplies, and warm clothing. Compliance with instructions issued by local administration, traffic police, and the Tourism Department has been strongly emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) has warned of potential risks due to heavy snowfall, including avalanches, landslides, and slippery road conditions in various districts.
The authority has urged both residents and tourists to avoid traveling to avalanche-prone areas and to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions. In case of any emergency, people are advised to immediately contact local administration, rescue services, or the relevant district control rooms.
The GBDMA has also stressed the importance of relying solely on official sources for information and avoiding unverified reports or rumors.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Department has appealed to tourists to prioritize their own safety and that of others by adopting a responsible and cautious approach to help prevent any untoward incidents.
