Baltistan K2 Clinch Trophy in Thrilling Jashn-e-Azadi GB Collegiate Cricket Final
November 1st marked a memorable day in the celebrations of Jashn-e-Azadi Gilgit-Baltistan, as the colorful final match of the Inter-Divisional Collegiate Cricket Tournament was played between two outstanding teams β Gilgit Warriors (Government Degree College Minawar, Gilgit) and Baltistan K2 (Government Degree College Skardu).
The ground was filled with excitement and energy as players showcased their remarkable skills in both batting and bowling.
The Gilgit Warriors had remained undefeated throughout the tournament, winning hearts with their powerful performances.
The final began with the toss, which went in favor of Baltistan K2, who chose to bat first β a decision that proved to be the right one.
Although Gilgitβs bowlers maintained pressure in the first four overs, a few dropped catches gave Baltistan K2 an opportunity to recover.
Man of the Match Zulqarnain played a brilliant innings, raining boundaries and sixes across the field. He scored 82 runs, the only half-century of the entire tournament.
As a result, Baltistan K2 set an impressive target of 152 runs in 10 overs.
In response, Gilgit Warriorsβ batsmen β Muhammad Asif, Atif Mian, Hifazat Ullah, and Kamran β batted courageously, but managed 127 runs in 10 overs.
Thus, Baltistan K2 claimed a 24-run victory, lifting the tournament trophy and concluding the championship on a historic note. π
The event was organized with the support of the Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism, Sports and Culture Department, as part of the GB Sports Boardβs Annual Calendar of Events.
The Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony was Mr. Fareed Ahmed, Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Department, Gilgit-Baltistan.
Among the distinguished guests were Professor Muhammad Alam, Director of Higher Education; Mr. Shah Muhammad, Director of GB Sports Board; and Mr. Ismat Ali Chingizi, Assistant Director and Focal Person of the Event.
Mr. Mansoor Wali, President of the GB Cricket Association, represented the organization.
The principals, teachers, students, and parents of participating colleges appreciated the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan for successfully organizing such a vibrant sports event.
Special tributes were paid to Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mr. Abrar Ahmed Mirza, Secretary Higher, Technical & Special Education Department Mr. Fareed Ahmed, and Secretary Tourism, Sports & Culture Mr. Zameer Abbas for their continued support and efforts in promoting sports and youth engagement across the region.
