World Tourism Day was celebrated across the globe with the theme โ€œSustainable Tourism and Transformation.โ€ Pakistan, as a proud member of UNWTO, joined hands with the international community to mark this important occasion. In Gilgit-Baltistan, the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Baltistan Hotel Association organized a commemorative event in Skardu. The program brought together government officials, hoteliers, environmentalists, and civil society to reflect on the importance of sustainable tourism. The event was attended by Mr. Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Minister for Planning & Development GB, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Zameer Abbas graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Heads of government departments including Forest & Wildlife, CKNP, EPA, and the Tourism Department of UOB also delivered speeches. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour underscored the vital role of nature conservation in tourism development, highlighting that the natural and cultural assets of Gilgit-Baltistan are unique and must be protected. They called for eco-friendly tourism practices to safeguard the fragile ecosystem of the region. Former GBLA member Mr. Imran Nadeem emphasized the collective responsibility of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan as custodians of nature, stressing the importance of preserving natural heritage for future generations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chairman of the Baltistan Hotel Association, reaffirming the commitment of local stakeholders towards sustainable tourism development.
