Landslides Disrupt Traffic on Karakoram Highway; Travellers Advised to Postpone Journeys

Gilgit-Baltistan – July 15, 2025: Heavy monsoon rains have triggered multiple landslides along the Karakoram Highway (KKH), particularly affecting sections in Kohistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. One of the most impacted areas is the Tatta Pani region, where massive debris flow has severely blocked the highway, stranding several passenger vehicles on both sides. According to local authorities, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has mobilized relevant departments and heavy machinery to clear the affected sections and restore normal traffic flow. However, due to continuous rainfall and the risk of further landslides, progress remains challenging. In light of the current situation, the District Administration and Disaster Management Authorities strongly advise travellers and tourists to postpone their journeys until weather conditions improve and road safety is ensured. “Ensuring public safety is our top priority. We are working round-the-clock to reopen the highway, but we urge citizens to remain patient and avoid unnecessary travel during this hazardous period,” an official spokesperson stated. Travellers are also advised to stay updated through official channels and cooperate with local authorities. Public Advisory: Avoid travel on KKH until further notice. Monitor updates from the Gilgit-Baltistan Government and district offices. In case of emergency, contact local helpline numbers. 1122: General emergencies 1422 or 05811930055: Tourist Police
