Bureaucratic Reshuffle in Gilgit-Baltistan: Sardar Asad Haroon Assumes Charge as Secretary Tourism

Gilgit, April 22: The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has carried out a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, introducing key changes across major departments to strengthen governance and administrative efficiency. Under the latest notification, Mr. Faisal Ahsan Pirzada has been appointed as Secretary Home, while Mr. Sardar Asad Haroon has been posted as Secretary Tourism, Sports & Culture. The changes have been made in the public interest with immediate effect. Sardar Asad Haroon, a senior officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, has formally assumed charge of his new responsibilities. Known for his administrative experience and professional competence, his appointment has raised expectations among public and official circles for improved performance in the tourism sector. Soon after taking office, Haroon visited the GB Sports Board to inspect facilities for upcoming sports events. He also reviewed arrangements for the opening ceremony of the forthcoming polo festival at Wahab Shaheed Polo Ground. During the visit, he held meetings with relevant stakeholders and emphasized the need for thorough planning to ensure the successful organization of the event. He directed officials to maintain high standards in event management and infrastructure readiness. In his initial directives, the newly appointed secretary stressed strict adherence to office discipline, warning that negligence in official duties would not be tolerated. He also instructed government employees across all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure punctuality and improve service delivery to the public. Sources indicate that the Tourism, Sports & Culture Department is reviewing ongoing projects, with renewed focus on enhancing tourism activities and promoting cultural and sports events, particularly the upcoming polo festival. Observers believe that the recent administrative changes will contribute to better governance and help unlock the region’s tourism potential.
