Jashne Azadi Polo Tournament Concludes in Gilgit with Great Success

Gilgit (Civil Team Desk) The Azadi Polo Tournament, organized by the Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture Gilgit-Baltistan, concluded in Gilgit with remarkable enthusiasm, smooth management, and professional execution. Security agencies, the district administration, polo associations, media personnel and all stakeholders played an instrumental role in making the event a grand success. Final Match: Chilas Claims the Trophy The final match, held at the historic Shahi Polo Ground, was played between Chilas and Skardu teams. In an exciting and closely contested game, Team Chilas defeated Team Skardu 8–5, securing the championship trophy. The Chief Guest at the final match was Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Abrar Ahmed Mirza, while Major General Imtiaz Hussain Gilani attended as Guest of Honor. Secretary Tourism, Culture & Sports GB, Mr. Zameer Abbas, presented departmental shields to both distinguished guests. Awards & Recognitions Several individuals and teams were honored during the closing ceremony: Best Polo Player of the Tournament: Ifrad Gul Best Horse: Awarded to the horse of Skardu’s polo player Imtiaz Babu Best Security Services: District Security Officer awarded a cash prize Outstanding Security Facilitation: SDPO Mr. Murtaza received a departmental shield Service Awards: Bomb Disposal Squad, Rescue 1122, and the Health Department received cash prizes for their exceptional services Special Appreciation for Media Coverage The organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all journalists, media personnel, and social media groups for their excellent coverage and effective promotion of the tournament. Polo — A Cultural Identity of Gilgit-Baltistan The tournament once again highlighted that polo is not just a sport in Gilgit-Baltistan, but an essential part of the region’s culture, heritage, and identity.
