Meeting Held Under the Chairmanship of Secretary Tourism to Review Preparations for the Shandur Polo Festival 2025

The Shandur Polo Festival, traditionally held during the first week of July each year, will be organized earlier this year from June 20 to 22, 2025, in consideration of the Islamic month of Muharram. To ensure the successful organization of the festival, an important meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Secretary Tourism, Mr. Zamir Abbas. The meeting focused on reviewing preparations and logistical arrangements for the event. Key matters discussed included the selection of teams from Gilgit-Baltistan, seating arrangements and issuance of passes for guests, camp setup at Shandur, installation of tents, availability of washroom facilities, and the provision of medical and security services. Special attention was also given to consultation with the National Highway Authority regarding road accessibility, and ensuring uninterrupted electricity and internet services for media personnel and spectators. The meeting was attended by representatives from various departments and institutions including the Home Department, Health Department, Local Government & Rural Development Department, National Highway Authority, GB Disaster Management Authority, GB Polo Board, GB Polo Association, NLI Polo Incharge, GB Scouts Polo Team Incharge, GB Sports Board, and the District Administration of Ghizer. Speaking at the occasion, Secretary Tourism emphasized that the Shandur Polo Festival is not only a reflection of Gilgit-Baltistan’s rich culture and traditions, but also a significant opportunity for tourism promotion and local economic uplift. He directed all concerned departments to ensure full cooperation and timely actions within their respective domains to guarantee a well-organized and successful festival. He further stated that the Shandur Polo Festival represents the cultural heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan, and thousands of visitors and enthusiasts are expected to attend this year's event.
