BORITH LAKE
Borith Lake is a lake in the Hunza district of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan. Borith is a hamlet in the surroundings of the Borith Lake to the northwest of Husseini, a village near Ghulkin, Gojal, in the upper Hunza. The altitude of Borith is roughly 2,600 m (8,500 feet) above sea level. It was a popular hunting place for the Mir of Hunza during winters particularly for birds. A small house was built for the Mir on a hill surrounding the lake just on the edge. Today this house is known as the Borith Lake Hotel. Borith Lake has reduced in size and become brackish over the years due to a reduction in the underground seepage that feeds it - a result of receding glaciers and the impact of climate change. The lake is an important bird sanctuary for migrating wildfowl (ducks, geese and swans). The best time to see these migrating birds is between the months of March and June, when they make their way to the cooler climes of Central Asia and between September and November, as they return to the warmer parts of the Southern Pakistan.
