Khaplu Fort
Khaplu Palace locally known as Yabgo Khar (meaning "The fort of Doqsa"), is an old fort and palace located in Khaplu, district Ghanche. It was built in the mid-19th century, replacing an earlier fort located nearby. It served as a royal residence for the Raja of Khaplu. The architecture of Khaplu Palace is a fusion of Himalayan, Kashmiri and Mughal styles, in terms of its spatial organization and overall decoration. The spaces inside the palace provide a historical record of the raja's lifestyle. The architectural style reflects the raja's cultural subjugation to the Mughals at that time, while also reflecting his appreciation of Kashmiri traditions. The natural setting is equally important and enhances the palace's heritage value. The most stunning element of the palace is its semi-octagonal timber entrance which transforms into a balcony on the second floor, and a guest room on the third floor.
