Deosai is a high-altitude alpine plain situated at an average elevation of 4,114 m above sea level and a declared National Park. In Balti language, it is called “Ghbiarsa” meaning “summer’s Place” as it is only accessible in the summers. Deosai Plains are considered as the second highest plateau in the world. The park is famous for its diverse wild life dominated by Himalayan Marmots and Brown Bear. The vast expanse of ground is carpeted with wild flowers. The Sheosar Lake (Blind Lake) at an average height of 4,114 m above sea level offers a treat for tourists and scampers alike. During spring, these blossoming flowers of a wide variety and delicate butterflies make Sheosar Lake exceptionally beautiful. Deosai National Park lies between the Skardu and Astore districts, with most of it in Skardu. The distance between Astore and Skardu via the Deosai Plain is about 152 kilometers. Both districts are renowned for their stunning landscapes, including mountains, meadows, and lakes, and offer adventure seekers trekking, mountaineering, camping, and fishing opportunities.
