Recently, the Directorate of Tourism GB has been given the mandate to function as the Directorate of Tourist Services GB in the light of above mentioned Acts and Rules.
In order to apply for Mountaineering and Trekking Permit, follow the below mentioned steps.
1. Submission of online application for Trekking
/Mountaineering application
2. Submission of Royalty and Environment fee
3. Submission of insurance
Before submission of application, ensure the following documents
• Application from tour operator on their letterhead
• Route map of proposed peak/trek
• Passport copies of members of the expedition
• Visa application form (duly filled) of foreign trekkers
• Occupation of trekking members
• Copy of license of tour operator company
• Copy of Paid Trekking Fee Receipt
• Copy of Waste Management Fee Receipt

All trekking and mountaineering activities in Gilgit-Baltistan must be registered with the tourism department, and tourists are required to obtain a permit before embarking on these activities in restricted areas. It is also mandatory to hire a licensed guide and porter for trekking and mountaineering in restricted areas. Yes, photography is strictly prohibited in restricted areas i.e. 5 miles along Line of Control and 10 miles along Wahkhan corridor of Gilgit-Baltistan as well as military installations and sensitive border areas. Tourists are advised to seek permission before taking photographs in these areas.
Camping is allowed in designated camping areas in Gilgit- Baltistan, and tourists are required to obtain a permit from the tourism department before setting up their tents. It is also mandatory to adhere to the Leave No Trace principles and to properly dispose of the waste.
