Significance: This is one of the two oldest wooden settlements in the Astore valley.
Site Description
Maqbool Pura is an old settlement located in central Minimarg, in the north of Dumail valley, an hour’s drive from the famous Burzil Pass. The settlement consists of eleven wooden houses, and within them reside inhabitants who are mainly immigrants from the Kashmir valley. The total population of the settlement is 150 individuals, and agriculture and cattle-herding are their customary occupations.
Salient Features
Timber from coniferous trees has been used to construct the settlement’s houses. The buildings mainly consist of two floors, wherein the ground floor is used as a cattle shed, while the upper floor is used as a residence. This cluster of dual-storied wooden houses and the surrounding natural beauty make for a memorable experience for visitors to this village.
State of Conservation
Since the settlement is owned by the local community, each individual is responsible for the maintenance of their respective places of residence. The settlement is in good condition.
